Security at Grounds

A MESSAGE FROM STUART GRANGER, UMPIRES ASSOCIATION CHAIRMAN

Yesterday one of our umpires had his mobile phone and car keys stolen from the umpires room while he was on the field. YES, his car was also stolen.

No lock on the dressing room door.

A misguided school of thought says he should have carried the keys and phone on his person. That is along with spare match ball, spare bail, counters, notebook and all the rest of the equipment one must have with him.

What about his spare sweaters, travelling clothes, shoes etc that he has to leave in the umpires room. Can he take them on the field also.

Upshot of this is our umpires will be instructed not to take the field from the 30th of July unless the dressing room is secure. We are not asking for a Chubb 5 lever lock, although that would be nice. A hasp and decent lock will suffice.

Regards
Stuart Granger
